The Smart City Experience
Language, Race, and Taxis
Barack Obama's candidacy has raised a host of issues surrounding race in America. To help address some of those issues we have Dr. Camille Charles on the show this week. Camille is the Director of the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She'll talk with us about how race has played a role this political season.
While Dr. Charles is studying the language we use around race, Lindsay Zaltman has written a book about the language we use to describe what we buy. He's the co-author of the book Marketing Metaphoria about the use of language and how a powerful metaphor can be used to change perceptions: perceptions of a candidate or a city.
Plus our producer Scotty Iseri brings us a conversation with the creator of the books Hack. Dmitry Samarov is an artist whose day job provides him with unique inspiration for his art.
Our Passion is Cities
THAT'S WHY WE WORK SO PASSIONATELY FOR THEM
Whether crafting new stories for cities or creating new initiatives that change their futures, our business is helping cities succeed. In finding a path to success, every city is different. There are no cookie cutter solutions, no templates and no magic answers. There is only the magic that comes from this formula for the future: courage + creativity + connectivity.
These are qualities we bring to our work. Cities' leaders call on us when they want solutions that are as unique as their own cities. Our solutions are national standards.
Our imagination and real world experience help cities claim their unique place in the race for new talent, more jobs and a vibrant quality of life. The success of our work has been reported in USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, NPR's Talk of the Nation, and other national media.
Our passion for cities is informed by constant news and trend analysis, including the award-winning, weekly, syndicated public radio program, "Smart City," hosted and produced by Carol Coletta. more...
