The Smart City Experience
True Urbanism, The City Desk, and Spacing
This week on Smart City we talk to two people who want you to get out and get to know your neighborhood. Shawn Micallef is an editor with Spacing magazine. Spacing is an innovative publication about public space in Toronto. Shawn will tell us about Toronto's unique city structure, and how he wants to turn city planners into rock stars.
And we'll speak with Mark Hinshaw, architect and author of the book True Urbanism. In it, Mark describes how to create neighborhoods, what you need to sustain a small business, and replaces the clean lines of New Urbanism with the messy vitality of "True Urbanism."
Plus, a special treat this week: We'll hear a piece from the fictional urbanism of The City Desk.
Our Passion is Cities
THAT'S WHY WE WORK SO PASSIONATELY FOR THEM
Whether crafting new stories for cities or creating new initiatives that change their futures, our business is helping cities succeed. In finding a path to success, every city is different. There are no cookie cutter solutions, no templates and no magic answers. There is only the magic that comes from this formula for the future: courage + creativity + connectivity.
These are qualities we bring to our work. Cities' leaders call on us when they want solutions that are as unique as their own cities. Our solutions are national standards.
Our imagination and real world experience help cities claim their unique place in the race for new talent, more jobs and a vibrant quality of life. The success of our work has been reported in USA Today, New York Times, Washington Post, NPR's Talk of the Nation, and other national media.
Our passion for cities is informed by constant news and trend analysis, including the award-winning, weekly, syndicated public radio program, "Smart City," hosted and produced by Carol Coletta. more...
